We also saw Elk, coyotes, rabbits, squirrels, prong horn deer, and one moose! They girls got along fabulously, and Ellie loved being in the camper!
We did have a scary experience on Tuesday morning. At 2:30 am, some campers came driving through yelling that a bear had just attacked two campers. We were not sure if it was real, because there were no official people saying anything. I got in the camper with the girls, but Chris stayed in the tent. At about 4:00 am, a sheriff came around and told all the people in tents to get in to there vehicles, and then at 4:30 am they evacuted the campground.
There had been three seperate attacks, which is very unusual. At 2:30 they knew of a lady who had been bitten on the arm, and a young man that had been bitten on the calf. They were both taken to the hospital, the woman having to have surgery for her injuries. She played dead and the bear let go of her. At 4:30 am they discovered the body of a man that had been dragged from his tent 25 feet. They captured a mother grizzly and two cubs the next morning, and a third cub on Friday morning. They were able to do a DNA test to verify that they had the right bear and then they killed her. The cubs have been sent to a zoo. They don't know why she attacked. It appears she was hunting. No one had left food out, or done anything wrong. It was just one of those freaking things. They are doing an autopsy on the bear to see if the can find anything that might give any clues.
It was pretty scary. We were on the opposite end of the campground, so we didn't hear any of the screaming or see any of the damage, but it was still frightening. You keep saying "what if" and lots of 'thank you" prayers! We were definately protected on this trip. About 9:00 am that morning I almost walked right in front of a huge, but strangely very quite buffalo in a picnick area! It was funny after a few minutes, but could have been ugly as well. They our brake lights went out on our truck and camper, but we were able to get them fixed.
We were very happy to get home on Friday night, take showers and sleep in our beds. This will be a vacation to remember!

Just so you know, I am sure we will talk about this later, but when we got the news I was scared. But, what came to mind was, "I wonder if Emmalee is freaked out!" Good idea not giving the full extent of the story to her til your arrival home, and I am assuming Ellie is clueless about the danger, lest she would never go camping again!
yellowstone does not sound like what it was when I was a kid!! that is a crazy trip, glad you made it home safe!!
